After your daughter's wedding day is over, you might find that your mother-of-the-bride dresses plus size has outlived its usefulness. If the gown proves to be an impractical addition to your wardrobe, consider donating it to a charity which will help less fortunate women afford a fashionable gown for their own daughter's wedding day. Some even provide gowns to high school students who are unable to afford prom dresses. With your donation, you can help someone else feel like a queen on their special day.

Dry clean your gown and ensure that there are no tears or snags in the fabric. You wouldn't want to wear a damaged gown on the day of your daughter's wedding, so you cannot expect anyone else to. Additionally, make sure that your dress is still in fashion. Most celebrity dresses re-locators only accept gowns worn within the last five to 15 years.

Locate a charity capable of accepting mother-of-the-bride gowns. Of course, there are always local charity shops such as the Salvation Army or Goodwill to choose from; But if you want your dress to go to a cause you believe in, there are other options.

Brides Against Breast Cancer, part of the Making Memories Foundation, accepts occasion gowns worn within the last five years and sells them back to brides and wedding party members who are unable to afford dresses of their own. After the gowns are sold, the proceeds are donated to cancer patients to help grant their last wishes. Donated gowns are either accepted by mail, or at the charity's designated drop-off locations.

Savvy Cinderella, part of ASAP Africa, relocates used gowns to destitute brides and bridal parties in Africa to help make their wedding days special, without breaking the bank. They accept used gowns purchased up to 15 years ago by mail.

Donate My Dress is a charity which relocates special occasion dresses to financially stressed high school girls, so that they can attend their prom. They are a national network and accept dresses at their local drop-off points.
